Meet Pat, Our HSE Manager

After spending 37 years immersed in the food industry, I’ve had the privilege of wearing many hats—from operations to hygiene, and later focusing deeply on health and safety. The last 13 years of my journey have been dedicated to Health, Safety, and Environmental Management—a role I now proudly continue at Bee Health, where I’ve been part of the team for the past 3½ years.

While my career has kept me plenty busy, home life has always been my grounding force. I’m married to Tina, and we have two wonderful children, Joe and Hollie, now grown and thriving in their 30s.

Outside of work, music has been a lifelong passion. I’ve played guitar in several bands over the years and currently perform with The Impossible, a group that plays energetic gigs across the Yorkshire region. When I’m not on stage or at work, you’ll likely find me nose-deep in a good biography or a gripping piece of historical fiction. And of course, there’s nothing better than long walks or trips abroad with my wife—just soaking in life and new experiences.

Health & Safety at Bee Health: A Clear Strategy, A Safer Future

At Bee Health, we believe that a safe workplace is the foundation for innovation, productivity, and employee well-being. That’s why we’ve implemented a comprehensive and proactive Health & Safety Strategy that empowers everyone—from shop floor to senior management—to contribute to a culture of care and responsibility.

Here are some of the key pillars of our strategy:

Communication & Engagement

  • H&S performance is tracked using KPIs and communicated clearly through displays and structured site meetings.
  • We maintain proactive H&S committees at every location, with freely elected employee reps and a strong constitutional framework.
  • Open communication is encouraged across the business to ensure all voices are heard and issues are addressed quickly.

Training & Preparedness

  • All employees receive a thorough site induction on their first day.
  • Contractors must complete an induction before starting work on site.
  • Managers and supervisors undergo Managing Safely training, while H&S Managers hold at least a NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Adequate training is provided for first aiders, fire wardens, and equipment operators—refreshed regularly.
  • Our employee H&S reps are trained to confidently and competently fulfill their roles.

Proactive Risk Management

  • We use approved HSE tools (MAC, ART, RAPP) for assessing manual handling and repetitive tasks.
  • Our safety framework includes PTW systems for contractors, and robust assessments for COSHH, PUWER, DSE, and more.
  • A comprehensive hazard register is maintained alongside risk assessments for all site activities, including vulnerable groups.
  • Emergency response plans are tested regularly, covering fire, spills, serious incidents, and confined space rescues.

Legal Compliance & Welfare

  • We work with specialist contractors for mandatory surveys (fire, asbestos, legionella, etc.) and statutory inspections of equipment.
  • The workplace is equipped with suitable welfare facilities for all shifts and staff needs.
  • PPE is provided based on risk assessments, and traffic management systems ensure safe movement around our sites.
  • An occupational health service is in place to support our employees and meet all relevant legislative requirements.

Culture & Continuous Improvement

  • We take an integrated approach to people management and health & safety, regularly conducting staff surveys and ethical audits to assess and improve our culture.
  • All incidents are investigated within 72 hours with root cause analysis and corrective actions closed out on time.

At Bee Health, we don’t just comply with standards—we set them. Our goal is to make sure that every employee not only works safely but thrives in a positive, transparent, and supportive environment.
